Tagen currently lives in Draper and spends her summers in Star Valley Wyoming. She writes a column for the Star Valley Independent (SVI) Newspaper on hikes in the area. All of these hikes of Star Valley will soon be published in a book in the Spring of 2020. She is an adventure columnist for SVI as well and is currently writing a series called Unlimited Women in the Outdoors. When she is not writing she’s a travel advisor and is traveling the world, playing with her two beautiful girls and handsome husband. She really loves to hike, ski, mountain bike, garden, cook and she has a hobby chicken farm. Tagen’s passion for the outdoors, hiking and travel is evident not only in her education, employment, and leisure activities, but it personifies the core of who she is, what she values, respects and strives to protect. She graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism with an emphasis in experiential education. She received her teaching certificate at Utah State University in Special Education and reading. She taught special education for 7 years and travel and tourism for 3 years for Granite School District. She was a naturalist along the San Francisco Bay in California, where she taught people of all ages about birds and the environment. In the Summer of 2004 she was invited to go on a 38 day National Outdoor Leadership (NOLS) trip in the Wind Rivers in Wyoming. This course was recorded by a production crew and the program was on the Travel/ Discovery channel. She was a river guide on the Snake River in Wyoming and the Eagle River in Alaska. She worked for the Outdoor Recreation Program at the University of Utah. She led students, staff and faculty on outdoor adventure trips, where she taught them how to do a variety of useful skills in the outdoors. She has led people on rafting, hiking, and biking trips.
Tagen’s first taste of travel was her senior year of high school when she went on a trip to Italy. That was the trip that changed her life forever. She’s been traveling to some of the most remote and beautiful places for 21 years since. She has been to most of the continental United States, Hawaii (5 times) and has lived in Alaska as a river guide. She frequently visits Europe, she has been to most of the countries in Europe. She has been on cruises in the Caribbean, all over Europe, including Greece and all things Mediterranean. She loves everything Disney including Disney cruises . Her favorite countries that she has visited include: Italy, Czechia and Sweden. Tagen has been on several humanitarian trips to El Salvador, Nicaragua, South Africa, and she lived in China where she taught English. Her favorite part of travel is interacting with the local people, eating yummy food and finding an adventure that usually includes hiking.
